Mid-Sussex League Division 1 2021-22: Horsham 1 – Hastings 1

Last night, Horsham 1 made the trek down to Hastings for their match against their 1st team. Ultimately, they came up short, as their opponents registered a 3-1 victory.

My game was against Francis Rayner, where I once again had the Black pieces. The opening was a reasonable success, but then I started to go wrong in the middlegame. However, I was fortunate that my opponent missed a strong blow, instead allowing a roughly balanced position. It was at this point my opponent offered a draw; normally, I would have been inclined to agree, especially as I was started to run short of time, but as it looked like we would lose at least one other game, I played on. Unfortunately, I fairly soon went wrong, and ended up in a lost position, from which I was unable to extract myself.

I give the game below with some notes.
