County Match (Open) 2021-22: Surrey – Sussex

Last Saturday I played for Sussex against Surrey in a twelve-board match at Cheam. Unfortunately, the match was a comfortable win for Surrey, and I lost my individual game.

I was White against John Hodgson, and the game followed a line of the Dragon, which has occurred several times in my own games. I played accurrately up to a point, but then started to lose my way a bit. My position was still acceptable, however, until I slipped up on moves 27 and 28; my opponent missed his first chance, but not the second, and was then always in a winning position.

I give the game below with some notes.
