Mid-Sussex League Division 1 2011-12: Horsham 1 – Brighton 1

Horsham 1 were away against Brighton 1 last Thursday. A win would have kept alive Horsham’s slim chances of winning the league. However, Brighton secured a 3-0 lead on the night which guaranteed victory. In the two unfinished games, Peter Harbott looked to be winning against Paul Batchelor, while I had a very poor position against Brian Denman. After considering the position at home, I decided to concede the game.

My game against Brian Denman started with both players apparently surprised in the opening. I achieved a decent position with Black, but let my position slip as I made a couple of poor moves. Although I tried to complicate the game as we both ran short of time, Brian held his nerve to consolidate his position.

I give the game below with some notes.
