McArthur Cup 2022-23: Horsham – Lewes

Last night, Horsham managed to win the McArthur Cup in a closely-contested final against Lewes. The match finished 3-3, but was decided on board count in Horsham’s favour.

I was paired as Black against Matthew Masani on board four. The game started in solid enough fashion, but my opponent then decided to try to grab a pawn. I managed to gain compensation at first, but then went wrong as I misjudged the strength of a queenside pawn break. Although I attempted to create complications, my opponent managed to negotiate his way through them to victory.

I give the game below with some notes.
