Horsham Club Championship 2025-26: Edgson – Mansson

Last week I played my eighth round game in the Club Championship. I managed to win, but unfortunately both my rivals did also, leaving them still half a point ahead.

I was up against Ian Edgson with the Black pieces. Following an equal opening, my opponent blundered the exchange as he failed to see that his move left a key square undefended. There were still plenty of technical obstacles to overcome, and following an inaccuracy, he ended up with definite compensation. I therefore decided to return the exchange to remove one of his dangerous bishops. I managed to work up a little pressure, but he was holding until he finally slipped up, leaving his king far too exposed. I was able to win material, and then, with checkmate looming in a few more moves, my opponent resigned.

I give the game below with some notes.
