Last Tuesday was the last round of the 2025-2026 Horsham Horsham Club Championship. I was half a point behind the two leaders and so had little prospect of winning, but wanted to achieve a good finish in any case.
I had the Black pieces and was up against John Marshall. It was a complicated game, in which the advantage swung backwards and forwards. Finally, my opponent slipped up twice, once allowing me to equalise, then to gain a decisive advantage; I managed to exploit this with a series of neat tactics, culminating in checkmate.
I give the game below with some notes.
