On the first Tuesday of July, I managed to finally finish the Horsham Club Knockout, with a somewhat fortunate win in the final.
I was up against Anthony Higgs and had the Black pieces in the first (and only) game. While the game was initially in my favour, I not only let my advantage slip, but also managed to get into some trouble as a result of some over-aggressive pawn play. I then made a tactical miscalculation that ended up leaving me down material, with a rook against two minor pieces. I defended doggedly for a while, but my opponent was close to victory when he then made a tactical miscalculation of his own. This allowed me to secure a material advantage in a clearly winning endgame, so he resigned at once.
