Horsham Club Championship 2017-18: Mansson – Heath

I started this year’s club championship with a draw against Chris Heath. Perhaps there was an element of good fortune in that he had the chance to gain a definite advantage, although given that neither player seemed to get much of a handle of what was going on in the position, perhaps a draw was a fair result!

I was White and the game started with a French Defence, where Chris deviated from our game last year. We followed “book” for a while before I deviated with a dubious attacking thrust. After both players traded inaccuracies, we enventually ended up in a roughly balanced endgame, where Black offered a draw, partially because of the position and partially because of time trouble. White was happy to accept as there was no serious prospect of him winning, only chances to get into trouble.

I give the game below with some notes.
