Horsham 1 and Horsham 2 started their Mid-Sussex League season with a match against each other, as they are both in Division 1. The match ended in a narrow 2.5-1.5 win for Horsham 1. I drew a scrappy game with Black against Ian Comley.
The game opened with a line of the English Opening I have used as Black a few time in recent years. Despite this, I managed to commit an early inaccuracy, which fortunately my opponent did not exploit! Indeed, the game featured a number of inaccuracies by both sides; both players had their chances, but in the end the game ended in a draw. I had been looking to win as the overall match developed, as it seemed Mark Broom was going to lose to Phil Stimpson; however, in the end I was happy with a draw, as going for more seemed too risky, while fortunately Mark manged to escape with half a point.
