Mid-Sussex League Division 1 2011-12: Crowborough 1 – Horsham 1

Horsham notched up a comfortable win against an under-strength Crowborough team last Friday. Gavin Lock secured a solid draw on board one against Peter Kemp, while Phil Stimpson, Peter Harbott and I all notched up wins. Dix Roberts was the only one to lose, but in the last game to finish, when the match was already decided.

My game against Bob Elliston was a positional battle, in which I succeeded in transforming a Dutch Defence into a favourable King’s Indian-like position, where Black had unwisely exchanged on e4 with his f-pawn. I did allow him a couple of opportunities to gain counter-play with …b5, but when these had passed, I was able to gradually build up the pressure until his position cracked.

I give the game below with some notes.
