Horsham Club Quickplay Knockout 2019-20: Mansson – Ashby

I suffered a disappointing exit from the quickplay knockout at the last club meeting of 2019. I was up against Nick Ashby, one of our new recruits. In the first game, I missed a chance to win a piece early on; then I let things slip in a balanced position, and Nick finished things fairly effectively. In the second game, I was rather fortunate to win as my opponent messed things up in a won position. As the score was 1-1, the match now went to sudden death. Unfortunately, I made a couple of serious misjudgements, castling queenside then weakening my position, which my opponent exploited well to secure victory.

I give the games below with some brief notes.
