County Match (Open) 2012-13: Sussex – Herts

Sussex played their rearranged match against Herts on Saturday. We managed to win 9-7 in the end, as we gradually built up a decent lead, then held on.

My game was against Paul Byway, whom I recently played in the 4NCL. It was on the surface a fairly quiet draw, although there were a couple of opportunities missed by both players. The first was when my opponent failed to punish my rash move 19…g5. The second was when I overlooked a tricky tactic in the endgame that would have won a rook.

I give the game below with some notes.
