A couple of Tuesdays ago, I played Hamish Hockings one again in the Horsham Club Knockout. Our first game in our third round match had been drawn, so a replay was necessary. We therefore played again with colours reversed.
I had the White pieces this time and play started with a solid line of the Queen’s Gambit. I gradually built up a very strong position, but then – as a result of playing too quickly – I made a terrible blunder, dropping the exchange to a simple fork. In the play that followed, both sides made further mistakes, and I eventually escaped with a draw. This meant that a further replay was necessary; this has yet to be played.
I give the game below with some notes.
