Horsham Club Championship 2025-26: Mansson – Higgs

Last Tuesday I was up against Anthony Higgs in the club championship.

I was White and the game started with the Queen’s Gambit. I managed to obtain an advantageous position out of the opening. My opponent then played a dubious move, which allowed a dangerous-looking sacrifice. I spent about forty minutes over a couple of moves trying to decide whether to go for it. In the end, I made the correct decision to adopt a quieter approach; however, my resulting time shortage meant that I was unable to analyse the subsequent moves in more detail, which contributed to me missing a later winning chance. In the end, the game was drawn, as my opponent successfully defended against my attacking maneuvers.

I give the game below with some notes.
