Mid-Sussex League Division 1: 2011-12: Horsham 1 – Hastings 2

Horsham 1’s successful start to the Mid-Sussex League season continued with a win against Hastings 2 last night. Overall the team racked up three wins and one draw, with one game unfinished. Dix Roberts, Peter Harbott and I registered wins, while Gavin Lock could only draw. Phil Stimpson’s game is not yet complete.

Gavin had Howard Tebbs under pressure for the whole game, but was unable to win. Dix’s game went down to the wire, with him making the time control with seconds remaining; Paul Kelly conceded the position soon after. Peter got the better of Derek Cosens in a more sedate encounter. Phil was in big trouble against James Wheeler, but may have scraped a draw.

I scored a decisive win with Black in 31 moves against Mel Young. For a few moves just out of the opening I felt a little uncomfortable, but the game soon turned in my favour. I give the game below with some notes.
