Mid-Sussex League Division 1 2016-17: Horsham 1 – Hastings 1

Last Tuesday, Horsham 1 was up against Hastings 1 at home in the Mid-Sussex League. The team scored a couple of draws on the top two boards and won all three games on the bottom three boards. This meant a very good 4-1 victory against a decent Hastings line up (Rayner, Sugden, Tebbs, Kelly and Anstead).

I was up against Howard Tebbs on board three. Early on, the game felt that it was heading for a dull draw as a result of White’s unambitious play. Then my opponent managed to place one of his rooks out of play, and the position became very good for me. I was able to exploit my advantage and win without much difficulty.

I give the game below with some notes.
