Mid-Sussex League Division 1 2012-13: Horsham 1 – Eastbourne 1

Horsham 1 achieved a narrow 3-2 victory over Eastbourne 1 in their match last night. Gavin Lock, Dix Roberts and Paul Taylor all won, but Phil Stimpson lost a safe-looking endgame, while I managed to blunder my queen against Oliver Froom.

My previous encounter against Oliver had seen him arrive rather late as a result of a teammate’s inability to distinguish between Horsham and Hassocks (I think that was the story), but this time the Eastbourne team were there promptly, so our game got underway without any such drama.

White chose a sharp attempt against the Queen’s Gambit Declined, and a tense position resulted. After playing the opening fairly quickly, both players soon drifted into time trouble. With a couple of minutes left each, I made the fatal mistake by placing my queen en prise, and resigned at once.

I give the game below with some notes.
