Mid-Sussex League Division 1 2011-12: Horsham 1 – Uckfield 1

The match against Uckfield 1 currently stands with Horsham 1 having a 3.5-0.5 lead, with only one game (mine) unfinished. The outcome of a number of the games looked uncertain for much of the evening. However, in the end Gavin Lock beat David Fryer, Phil Stimpson beat Anthony Pelling, and Peter Harbott beat Peter Weston, while Dix Roberts managed to obtain a draw against Ian Philipson, despite dropping the exchange for what appeared like not a great deal.

My game against Gerald Michaud started very quietly. However, as has happened in a number of games recently, I gradually drifted into severe time trouble. Then my opponent overlooked a standard tactic and I had a won position. However, short of time, I allowed my opponent back into the game. After a few further ups and downs, we reached a double rook endgame with my opponent having two pawns against my one. The position looks drawn to me at the moment, but a result has yet to be agreed. I shall post the game with notes as soon as this happens.
