Horsham Club Championship 2010-11: Mansson – Roberts

On Tuesday I played my first club championship game of the year against Dix Roberts. The result of the game was extremely frustrating. In the opening, my opponent made a known error, which allows White to win the exchange for a pawn, while retaining a comfortable position. By the time we reached the first time control, my position was clearly winning. However, I then made the mistake of trying to finish the game on the night, rather than opting for an adjournment; if I had done that, I wouldn’t have been surprised if Dix had resigned without resuming. In the play that followed, I made a series of mistakes, while Dix played some good moves to generate counter play. In the end, I made one miscalculation too many and lost the game.
